A 22-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly tried to kill her 11-month-old son at a farm in the Okahandja district on Saturday.
Namibian Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi reported on Sunday that the baby was rescued by the mother’s elder brother, after he had broken open the door of a shack in which the alleged attempt to kill the baby took place.
Shikwambi said the incident occurred at a resettlement farm, Uitkomst, in the Okahandja district.
“The victim is in a stable condition and received necessary medical assistance,” Shikwambi reported.
She added that the suspect has been detained and is due to appear in court on Monday.
Shikwambi reported as well that a 47-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly shot a 25-year-old man in the Greenwell Matongo area in Windhoek on Saturday.
Shikwambi said the victim sustained serious injuries when he was was shot in his lower back.
“The victim is admitted at Katutura Intermediate Hospital. A police investigation continues,” she stated.
