The lifeless body of a newborn baby boy was found dumped among bushes at a settlement in the Omusati region’s Ogongo constituency on Saturday.

“It is alleged that the suspect hit a newly born baby boy on the head near the right ear with an unknown hard object which caused severe injury, resulting in the death of the baby,” the police said in a crime report on Monday.

“It is further alleged that the suspect dumped the body of a baby in the bushes with the intent to defeat the course of justice,” the police stated.

The baby’s body was discovered by a woman who was collecting empty tins around the settlement on Saturday afternoon. The woman reported her discovery at Ogongo Police Station.

The suspect is unknown at this stage.

The baby’s body has been transported to a police mortuary at Okahao for a post-mortem examination to be conducted to determine the cause of the infant’s death.

Police investigations continue.
