B2 highway claims life of Zambian National truck driver

A 42-YEAR-OLD Zambian national died in a motor vehicle accident after the truck he was driving reportedly swerved off the road.

The incident, according to the Namibian Police’s Erongo spokesperson, senior inspector Hilda Shomongula, occurred at around 11h44 on Sunday on the B2 national highway, approximately nine kilometres outside Arandis.

It is alleged that the single-cabin international truck overturned when the driver lost control.

“The truck, belonging to FSIM Trucking Zambia, was found lying on its roof with the driver trapped in the cabin. The vehicle was loaded with bags of zinc materials,” Shomongula said.

The deceased’s next of kin are yet to be informed and police investigations are ongoing.

In an unrelated matter, the police have confirmed the arrests of three suspects related to the alleged armed robbery of an elderly couple in Henties Bay last week.

According to the police, the couple were allegedly attacked and assaulted with a panga in their home and were robbed of their vehicle and television set, among other possessions.

The suspects are all in police custody and police investigations continue.
