Awards for community achievers

NAMIBIANS have been invited to take part in Southern Africa’s leading grassroots community awards – the Jet Community Award – which is now open for entries.

Over the past four years the award run by Jet Stores has enjoyed increasing recognition by offering unequalled benefits and ensuring sustained impact for the winners. A meticulous verification process, through which 24 regional winners and four overall winners are selected, underscores the company’s aim of acknowledging and rewarding the very best community-based organisations in the region. In addition to receiving business management scholarships, the winners share R520 000 in prize money, which is split among 24 regional winners and four overall winners. It works out at R10 000 for each regional winner and R70 000 for each of four overall winners. The winners of the competition not only benefit from the cash prizes to invest in their projects, but are also awarded bursaries for financial and management studies to run their projects more successfully. They also gain exposure in various media across the region to create more awareness of what they do and have achieved. The awards are open to individuals and organisations whose work visibly benefits their communities.Anyone who feels that someone they know is a community hero or heroine can submit an entry form.Nominations and self-completed entries will be accepted.Entry forms are available in the Jet Club magazine and selected local newspapers.Jet Community Awards invites entrants from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. There will be regional award ceremonies for regional finalists during June and July and in October the final award ceremony will be held in Johannesburg – finalists will be flown to Johannesburg by Jet to attend.Dates, however, are still to be confirmed. There are four categories – We Care: helping the sick, handicapped, elderly or vulnerable children; We Will Overcome: working for peace and justice, combating substance abuse, gang violence or violence against women; Vukuzenzele: working towards skills development centres and entrepreneurs creating community jobs; and Education: educators with a difference – teaching or any related activity that promotes learning in Southern Africa To enter the competition, one has to fill in the entry form and post to: Jet Community Awards, Box 15077, Vlaeberg 8018, or send a fax to (00-27-21) 424 3612 requesting an entry form, or e-mail the entry form to jetclub@tppsa.co.za with the words ‘Jet Community Awards’ in the subject line.A meticulous verification process, through which 24 regional winners and four overall winners are selected, underscores the company’s aim of acknowledging and rewarding the very best community-based organisations in the region. There are four categories – We Care: helping the sick, handicapped, elderly or vulnerable children; We Will Overcome: working for peace and justice, combating substance abuse, gang violence or violence against women; Vukuzenzele: working towards skills development centres and entrepreneurs creating community jobs; and Education: educators with a difference – teaching or any related activity that promotes learning in Southern Africa To enter the competition, one has to fill in the entry form and post to: Jet Community Awards, Box 15077, Vlaeberg 8018, or send a fax to (00-27-21) 424 3612 requesting an entry form, or e-mail the entry form to jetclub@tppsa.co.za with the words ‘Jet Community Awards’ in the subject line.
