Avoid adding additional seats to buses, owners warned

THE Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta) has warned bus and seven-seater owners against adding additional seats to their vehicles, and to stick to the required carrying capacity.

Nabta spokesperson Pendapala Nakathingo says the association has seen a tendency of bus and seven-seater owners providing additional seating in their vehicles, resulting in a lack of space for passengers to sit comfortably.

“We do not know where this trend is coming from. Some buses and seven-seaters do not have enough space inside. Your legs cannot move freely, which is dangerous,” Nakathingo says.

He also warns bus and taxi drivers to avoid overcharging passengers.

“We have also noted that some drivers are speeding, which is very dangerous. Let’s adhere to traffic rules and regulations and arrive safely,” he says.
