Windhoek’s Avis Dam is set to undergo a major transformation, thanks to a recently signed agreement between Gondwana Collection Namibia, PSG Wealth, and Greenspace Namibia. This partnership aims to develop the dam into a space for conservation, recreation, and community engagement, ensuring that it remains a vibrant and sustainable urban outdoor sanctuary.
The initiative, a non-profit endeavour, focuses on improving recreational opportunities, enhancing environmental awareness, and positioning Avis Dam as a prime urban conservation and educational site. Planned upgrades include well-marked trails, educational information panels, and improved digital engagement through an interactive forum and mobile app. A modern information centre at the main entrance will provide updates on activities, trails, and events while streamlining entrance fee payments.
“At Gondwana, we are always keen and excited to be part of initiatives that serve broader society and this partnership is a perfect example of that ethos. We look forward to seeing it thrive as a community space for education and recreation,” said Jescey Bekker representing Gondwana Collection Namibia at the recent signing ceremony.

Greenspace Namibia, as the leaseholder, operating on behalf of the City of Windhoek, will oversee daily operations, maintenance, and the master plan implementation. Meanwhile, Gondwana Collection Namibia and PSG Wealth Namibia will be supportive in this effort to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.
Avis Dam is also benefiting from nature’s generosity. The recent rains across Windhoek have provided a noticeable boost to the dam’s water levels, breathing new life into the area. The much-needed rainfall has not only rejuvenated the landscape but also improved the overall aesthetic and ecological health of the dam.
With water levels rising and an ambitious vision set in motion, Avis Dam is poised to become a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, and families seeking a tranquil escape within the city. The collaboration between these key stakeholders signals a new era of sustainability, community engagement, and environmental stewardship for one of Windhoek’s most cherished natural spaces.
