Aupa Indongo takes a swipe at politics

OSHAKATI – Business tycoon Frans Aupa Indongo has criticised the formation of many political parties in Namibia, arguing that they have nothing new to offer to the nation.

Indongo was addressing Oshakati Town Council officials and community members at Oshakati on Monday afternoon, when he said that 12 political organisations in Namibia are unnecessary in comparison to such a small population of the country. He also lashed out at those deserting the ruling party to form new political parties and labelled them as power-hungry individuals.’This is just cheating the nation, as they have nothing new to offer,’ Indongo told his audience, who included the Councillor for Oshakati East Constituency, Lotto Kuushomwa, and Oshakati Mayor Katrina Shimbulu. He, however, backtracked by telling his audience that he convened the meeting just to deliberate on the relationship between the public sector and the government of the country, and not to criticise a certain political party or an individual politician. The 74-year-old Indongo also expressed his willingness to see the Namibian government caring for all citizens in the country, irrespective of their respective backgrounds or status in society. He then called on employees to stop stealing from their employers – be it in the public service or the private sector – if economic development is to flourish in the country.Indongo has at the same time condemned those who used to have an excuse of them being true and/or untouchable freedom fighters, when they are reminded of their wrongdoing in the public service or elsewhere.’You are not the only one who contributed to the struggle for the liberation of the country; many others were also in exile fighting for the independence of this country,’ Indongo said. – Nampa
