Audi RS 3: Power, precision and performance unleashed

Toprevs was not prepared for what followed when Audi Centre sales executive Daphna Muller recently handed over the keys to one of the fastest production Audis on the road.

Reading about the RS 3 or watching review videos does little justice.

Experiencing it in person is something else entirely.

“It is breathtaking, and it performs exactly as expected,” Muller said. “As the saying goes – it’s the signature of the firing sequence.”

From the first press of the accelerator, the RS 3 responds instantly – no delay, no hesitation. Even the keyless entry gives no clue of the sheer force waiting under the bonnet.

The suede-covered multi-function steering wheel makes a lasting first impression, while the dual exhaust system growls with unrestrained authority.

Power defines the RS 3: its 2.5-litre petrol S tronic engine launches from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. With 294kW and 500Nm, it easily passes double the legal speed limit on Namibian roads – a blistering 250km/h.

To manage this performance, Audi equips the RS 3 with its trademark quattro all-wheel-drive system, RS sport exhaust, sport suspension, and steel brakes with gloss red calipers. Together, they create a car that looks aggressive, sounds commanding and handles like a race machine. The 19-inch, 10-spoke black metallic wheels add to its presence, while a tyre pressure monitoring system ensures extra safety.

Inside, premium touches abound. Red stitching on the bucket seats, RS embossing, and a red square detail on the steering wheel constantly remind the driver that this is no ordinary car. The bold RS badge on the boot quietly signals racing DNA to other road users.

Safety and convenience features are extensive, including Audi Drive Select, lane departure warning, park assist, proactive occupant protection, high-resolution reverse camera, side assist, exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist – ideal in crowded parking lots.

The exterior sharpens its stance with a black styling package, plus black mirror housings and RS door sill trims.

Inside, two features stand out: the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus with an RS-specific layout, and the SONOS 3D premium sound system.

A heads-up display projects vital information onto the windscreen, evoking a jet fighter cockpit while keeping the driver’s eyes firmly on the road.

Despite its racing character, the RS 3 offers reasonable efficiency, with fuel consumption of 9.0l/100km (combined urban and extra-urban).

Available in both sportback and sedan, the RS 3 also comes in a Carbon Edition.

This adds extras such as a roof edge spoiler, tailgate spoiler and carbon-trimmed engine cover – perfect for those wanting to add exclusivity to their driveway.

The RS 3 is not just another performance car. It is a precision machine that blends everyday usability with blistering pace – a statement on four wheels that warns rivals the moment it roars to life.
