Attacker burns woman’s hut

A 29-year-old man from a village in Okahao has been charged with arson and common assault after he allegedly beat up a woman and set her hut on fire.

Police said the woman reported that the suspect, Toivo Kamakela, had come to her hut on Saturday evening, apparently under the influence of alcohol, and attacked her. She alleges that he tried to rape her, but that she escaped and ran outside, hiding from him in the darkness of the night.The 26-year-old woman reported that she could see her assailant searching for her in vain, after which he allegedly set her hut on fire in an attempt to lure her out.She then managed to notify others at the Onambadje village where the incident took place, as well as the Police at Okahao, who arrived to arrest the suspect.She alleges that he tried to rape her, but that she escaped and ran outside, hiding from him in the darkness of the night.The 26-year-old woman reported that she could see her assailant searching for her in vain, after which he allegedly set her hut on fire in an attempt to lure her out.She then managed to notify others at the Onambadje village where the incident took place, as well as the Police at Okahao, who arrived to arrest the suspect.
