Athletic Steffi is Miss Namibia 2015

ATHLETIC, bubbly and charming, Steffi van Wyk was crowned Miss Namibia 2015. With her response in the questions category and being the crowd favourite putting her firmly in the lead, Steffi charmed her way to the country’s most coveted crown, in front of a full house at the Windhoek Country Club and Casino on Saturday evening.

Throughout the selection process, it was evident that Steffi’s charisma and energetic presence set her apart and would take her far in the pageant.

Speaking to The Namibian, the sports manager was evidently overwhelmed by the news and couldn’t contain her joy. “The first thing that came to mind when my name was announced as the winner was happiness. I was just so happy and I thanked the Lord,” she said.

Although her lack of experience in beauty pageants could have been an issue when it came to etiquette and grooming, Steffi held her own amongst fellow contestants who had years of experience in modelling or those with extra help from pageant coaches. “I really stepped out of my comfort zone, this is so different for me,” she said.

The 23-year-old holds an honours degree in Sport Science and lists her hobbies as athletics, coaching, music, nature and socialising.

Staying true to her promise to focus on youth in sports during her preliminary judging interviews, Steffi had this to say about her selected projects as Miss Namibia 2015: “I really want to work on the development of sports and have the youth involved in extramural activities.”

She added that her contract with Jan Möhr Secondary School expires in August so her year of reign will be solely dedicated to her duties as Miss Namibia.

Steffi was crowned at the extravagant event that saw Unongo Kutako walking away with the second princess sash while Lyrischiah Immanuellah was crowned first princess.

The event was a Namibian affair, with performers and speakers paying tribute to the country’s 25th independence anniversary.

Local designers Cobus Moller and Nikola Conradie also stunned with the fruits of their hard work clearly evident in their marvellous creations which contestants walked the ramp in. Their understudies, as part of the Young Designers, equally impressed with their creations for the pageant.
