Local vintage apparel brand Gweri Vintage Collection (GVC) will be adding some new items to their inventory from the beginning of August as they unveil an exciting collaboration with the well-established South African hat brand Simon and Mary.
The joint venture was announced via their respective social media platforms last week, with photos of GVC founder Pinehas ‘ZuluBoy’ Shikulo donning an array of hat styles.
This comes in addition to the popularity of Gweri socks, currently sold by GVC.
Shikulo says they’d been wanting to expand for a while, and after doing a bit of research realised Simon and Mary would be the perfect fit.
“We’ll be distributing Simon and Mary hats through GVC from August. After that we will collaborate with them on designs that will be sold in both countries.”
Alongside the headgear in an assortment of styles and colours for both men and women, the team is also looking at incorporating scarves and leather bags in the collection before the end of the year.
So far, they have also teased a Gweri Vintage wine called Gwine, as well as shirts with the brand’s signature logo embossed on the pocket, though both are yet to make it to the commercial market.
This project will also be their first pairing outside Namibia, having already partnered locally with brands such as Jägermeister, Gondwana and Nictus.
Simon and Mary, a brand manufacturing their hats in Johannesburg, offer tweed fedoras, ‘military’ fezzes, hemp designs and khaki safari styles which will fit in quite well with Shikulo’s signature vintage look.
