Arrows still shooting blanks

UNCERTAINTY, more questions and pressure are all factors that Eleven Arrows coach Ronnie Kanalelo and his deputy, Congo Hindjou, are currently facing, as the side has not won a single match after their five games in the MTC Premiership so far.

Arrows were held to a 1-all draw by Black Africa at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, giving them a fourth draw and a loss in their title campaign to date. They however have a game in hand, but it is irrelevant, as fans and club owner Johnny Doëseb are increasingly becoming impatient with the misfiring side.Despite playing more purposefully and showing better composure especially in the second half, Arrows just failed to find the net to release them from the misery of always settling for less.Arrows were held to draws by Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW, 1-1), Orlando Pirates, (1-1), Civics (0-0), while they lost 2-1 to their hoodoo team African Stars.Their fans were visibly irritated by the lack of goals coming the way of the side despite having some of the finest players in the league, while Doëseb on Friday indicated that he was a worried man and something needed to happen against BA. That elusive win never came their way and this has placed the future of the two coaches into more uncertainty as they have only collected four points from a possible 11 points. That is if they could have won against SKW and Civics because of their vulnerability, while drawing with the other three big guns.In fact, all the matches have not been easy for the two coaches and the players, as four have been away from home. That also puts pressure on Arrows, as they have to work extra hard by beating their opposition on the field while having to withstand the roaring fans of their opponents.UGLY SCENES Despite the difficult situation in which Arrows finds itself, there were ugly scenes of some hooligans who fired beer onto the pitch, after BA coach Ali Akan was sent off from the bench for the second time this season. The extremely volatile Akan was given his marching orders from the bench after repeatedly interfering with the duties of the assistant referee. Some elements from the crowd in the main stand fired some tins of beer onto the pitch, one of which one almost hit the referee on his head. The Task Force, with the help of the Humphries Security Guard Division, defused the trouble to allow the match to continue and conclude, but the referee and his assistant had to wait for at least 15 minutes on the pitch, before they could safely find their way through the tunnel. They feared that they could be hit by the tins as the tunnel to the cloakrooms enters directly under the main stand. In the only match on yesterday, Civics suffered a 1-0 loss to Blue Waters after Wycliff Kambonde struck home the winner. On Friday night, African Stars were nearly suffocated by Ramblers but staged a dramatic comeback to draw one-all in the end. Ramblers talisman and captain Brian Brendell, who was awesome in defence, headed in the opener for his side to send them 1-0 into the break, but the unpredictable Ninja Karongee was on hand to equalise for Stars in the closing stages of the game.Once again, Quinton Jacobs was in superb form for Stars, with his trademark but telling passes, composure when in control and effortless way of bringing the game down to his pace. He made a huge difference overall for his side on the night. It was a high-octane encounter that saw many chances going astray for both sides, but it also brought out the best of the respective goalkeepers, especially with Max Mbaeva for Stars keeping his side in the match. In other results, United Stars caused a 3-0 upset unto Oshakati City, with Alfred Shimuma posting a brace, while Paulinus Likuwa added the third.Tigers fought their win to a 1-0 victory over a rigid Hotspurs side after a spot-kick from their captain Tangeni Shipahu found its way into the net in the second stanza. corry@namibian.com.na
