DELAYS in the construction of a new military base at Ondangwa are puzzling the National Council Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security.
The committee recently visited security and Home Affairs premises in the Oshana, Omusati, Kunene and Erongo regions. Presenting the findings of their visit, committee chairperson Jhonny Hakaye said although the Ondangwa Town Council had allocated land for the new base years ago, nothing had happened yet.He said the condition of the Oshakati military base was going from bad to worse and there were no renovations taking place because of plans to move the base to Ondangwa. The same went for the Oluno base, he said.’One wonders what this whole delay is all about and why no renovations are being carried out in those two old military bases,’ Hakaye told the National Council on Thursday. He said the living conditions of those working at border posts at Dobe, Kashamane, Omahenene, Okangwati and Epupa also needed attention.
