Armed robbers jailed

THE Oshakati Regional Court has sentenced Willem Mukete (26) and Andreas Johannes (28) to a combined 18 years in jail on charges of housebreaking and armed robbery. Mukete and Johannes were convicted of breaking into the shop of Johannes Kandjibi at Onamutai in the Oshana Region on November 24 2003.

They held an employee, Natalia Mwaamenange, at gunpoint, tied her up and ransacked the shop. Goods valued at N$3 000 were stolen.Some of the items were later recovered by the Police.Magistrate Paulus Noa sentenced Mukete to 10 years because he has previous convictions of housebreaking, theft, possession of ammunition and escaping from custody.Johannes was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.Another accused, Hamukoto Alex, was found not guilty on the charges.”This crime of housebreaking and robbery was premeditated, and robbery has become so prevalent that it threatens the very fabric of our society,” Magistrate Noa said when he sentenced the two men.Goods valued at N$3 000 were stolen.Some of the items were later recovered by the Police.Magistrate Paulus Noa sentenced Mukete to 10 years because he has previous convictions of housebreaking, theft, possession of ammunition and escaping from custody.Johannes was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.Another accused, Hamukoto Alex, was found not guilty on the charges.”This crime of housebreaking and robbery was premeditated, and robbery has become so prevalent that it threatens the very fabric of our society,” Magistrate Noa said when he sentenced the two men.
