AR wants ECN to explain irregularities

The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has filed a formal complaint with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).

The AR cites ballot shortages, mobile teams failing to set up and the ECN turning voters away illegally.

The AR has labelled these issues as irregularities.

AR, in a letter to ECN chief electoral and referenda officer Peter Shaama, says Wednesday’s election activities are a “grave infringement on the constitutional principles of free, fair and transparent elections, which lie at the heart of Namibia’s democracy”.

The AR demanded that the ECN address their concerns by end of business on Friday.

Some of the other issues involve overfilled ballot boxes, power disruptions, as well as unsecured and exposed ballot boxes.

The party wants the ECN to explain what the current status of the election process is, and whether it is still open.

“What has been done to ensure protection of ballot papers [that] have been left open?

“What should the voters do who could not vote due to lack of ballot papers?” AR leader Job Amupanda has questioned.
