AR urges young people to carry Swapo MP Uerikua’s vision forward

Affirmative Repositioning parliamentarian George Kambala says Swapo parliamentarian James Uerikua should be remembered as a brilliant young leader whose life reflected the potential of youth leadership in Namibia.

Kambala was speaking as political leaders continue to mourn Uerikua, who died in a vehicle accident in the Otjozondjupa region on Friday.

“James Uerikua was a gallant son of the soil, brilliant, brilliant young person. I believe together we would have changed the trajectory and the developmental state of Namibia,” Kambala says.

He says Uerikua would be remembered for his eloquence and his robustness, as well as his commitment to making Namibia “a better space for everyone.”

“James loved before anything else, he believed in a Namibian dream.

“He believed that every Namibian deserves to be and to achieve,” Kambala says.

He adds that Uerikua’s commitment to recognising the Ovaherero and Nama genocide was unmatched.

“He is one of those young leaders who made sure that the Germans acknowledge and compensate our fellow Herero brothers and sisters. He never wavered. He is brilliant,” he says.

Addressing young people directly, Kambala says Uerikua’s death should strengthen the call for youth leadership.

“So to young people, to my fellow young people, let the memory of James Uerikua further cement that young people deserve to lead.

“Young people, it’s our time, and young people we need to deliver this country to the next phase,” he says.

He urges the youth to ensure that Uerikua’s legacy lives on through youth emancipation, empowerment and leadership.
