Consumers in the Khomas region spent the highest amount for 1kg apples during August, paying N$41.24 kg.
The same consumers also paid the highest for a bag of 2.5kg white bread flour at N$54.93.
This is according to the latest Namibia Consumer Price Index released yesterday by the Namibia Statistics Agency.
Consumers in the ||Kharas, Erongo, Hardap and Omaheke regions followed by paying the second highest price for the same apples, spending N$38.66 over the same period, while spending the lowest on white bread flour at N$49.58.
Consumers in the Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi regions paid the lowest for the same apples at N$33.55, while for bread flour they spent N$50.99.
Meanwhile, during the same period, the headline annual inflation rate stood at 3.2% compared to 4.4% registered in August 2024.
On a monthly basis, the inflation rate was observed at 0% compared to 0.1% witnessed a month ago.
The inflation rate in the Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi regions was the highest at 3.6%, while the ||Kharas, Erongo, Hardap and Omaheke regions recorded 3.25, followed by the Khomas region with 2.9%.
Statistician general Alex Shimuafeni says core inflation stood at 3.6%, slightly higher than the headline inflation rate of 3.2%.
“The term ‘core inflation’ describes a measure of inflation that excludes certain volatile elements from the overall inflation calculation.
These volatile elements typically include food and energy (excluding gas, paraffin, methylate spirits, coal and charcoal) prices, which tend to experience significant price fluctuations due to factors such as weather conditions, geopolitical events or changes in supply and demand,” he says.
The main contributors to the annual inflation rate of 3.2% in August 2025 were food and non-alcoholic beverages contributing 1 percentage point; followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco which added 0.8 percentage points each.
