As is custom to the brand, Apple is going to release the latest iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 8, next week. And since it’s the deluxe anniversary, we might just see an extra special iPhone in the works – possibly a name change as well.
Sadly, the price is going to be one of the biggest turnoffs for loyal users: Tech experts are already saying that it could go for more than N$17 000 – plus tax.
And that’s just the standard. Apparently Apple is going to explain why as soon as the phone is launched, so we’ll be waiting for that.
But let’s start off with what the design could look like. Every year, the iPhone gets slightly bigger – just enough to have a comfortable grip, but also enough to have a great experience when watching videos. A wraparound effect of the screen? Maybe. The sound quality is tops, thanks to the stereo speakers on the iPhone 7, so maybe we can expect a tweak in this department.
But this might not be the star quality of the iPhone 8. The touch ID function has been a hit with previous iPhones, so could make a comeback. Unless it doesn’t. That would be a shocker!
Internally, the spacing of the iPhone could get bigger and better. Over the years, people have realised that 16GB is just not enough any more. That darned “storage almost full” is as annoying as a fly on a hot summer’s day. Since the iPhone 7 starts off at 32GB, the iPhone 8 might just go up to 128 GB. Or 512GB.
One of the bigger questions is… will the headphone jack make a comeback? Experts say no. Because Apple is trying to keep their products as premium as possible, there might be some ‘unnecessary’ accessories added to the phone for the sake of making a profit. Ear pods haven’t been a hit, that’s for sure, but perhaps we’ll see something even more unique.
When it comes to the camera work of the iPhone, it’s pure brilliance. Since this is one of the biggest features of having an iPhone, we can definitely expect better focus, better video and something new, we’re guessing. Dual cameras maybe? Sharper quality? More unique features? The downside might be the protruding lens, but that doesn’t really bother many people – especially when you’ve got a good cover for your phone.
A wireless charging system is highly likely – after all, wires are slowly but surely disappearing, and Apple is making sure of that. However, it’s nothing we haven’t seen from Apple’s competitors. So what’s going to make the iPhone stand out? Tuesday, 12 September is D-Day so do keep a look-out for that.
