A THIRD cocaine smuggler in two months was arrested at Walvis Bay International Airport on Monday.
The ‘mule’, an Angolan man, was nabbed after arriving from Brazil via Johannesburg. According to Police, the arrest followed a tip-off from the public.X-rays at the Walvis Bay State Hospital revealed the man had swallowed 80 ‘bullets’ of cocaine. The street value of the drug is estimated at approximately N$600 000. The man was given laxatives to excrete the plastic capsules. By Tuesday afternoon the suspect was still in hospital, relieving himself of the last ten capsules.The man will appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on charges of drug smuggling and possession.On May 27 and July 1 two other Angolan nationals were arrested at the airport, carrying cocaine in their intestines. About 150 capsules were found in them, with a street value of over N$1 million. Both suspects are in Police custody at Walvis Bay.Erongo Police Chief, Commissioner Festus Shilongo, said Walvis Bay International Airport was fast becoming a transit point for drug traffickers.’We will make sure that these criminals who are coming here to destroy our nation are stopped in their tracks,’ he said. ‘What these criminals must understand is that they are not just challenging the Police, they are also challenging our people, and that is why they are being arrested. The Police and the community are working hand in hand to make and keep Erongo safe.
