THE pre-commissioning of the ‘Anixas’ power station at Walvis Bay started last month and, if all goes well, the harbour town will have an additional 22,5MW of electricity added to the national electricity grid by the end of May.
The purpose of the N$375 million diesel generator power station is to provide emergency standby electricity generation for Namibia which would be ready in case of power outages and emergency – and during peak periods of power consumption.Anixas is situated next to the existing Paratus Diesel Generator Power Station near Kuisebmond.The new station boasts with recent technology with higher efficiency, more reliability, less emissions and less noise than older power stations of similar nature.Its 60m high ‘chimney’ (the highest structure in Walvis Bay) will disperse emissions high up reducing the concentration of pollutants.
