Angula urges NUNW to come clean on smear campaign accusations

NAHAS Angula, one of the Swapo Party’s candidates for President, has challenged the National Union of Namibia Workers (NUNW) to name the parties or individuals involved in unfair campaign practices.

Last week NUNW acting Secretary General Peter Naholo said some Swapo leaders were conducting a campaign marked by mudslinging and character assassination, bordering on defamation. Addressing a Swapo rally at Westerkim, at Karasburg, at the weekend, Angula said:”I urge those making allegations that some of the presidency elected candidature are involved in mudslinging and character defamation to come clean and tell the nation what they know and what we don’t know about ourselves.”We at Swapo want an open, clear and transparent system of managing the transition because this is the only way to give confidence to the nation,” he said.Angula said as far as he was concerned the playing field for the presidential campaign was level.”If I’m elected President I will bring the value of transparency, the value of fairness, the value of unity and the value of progress to that office,” he said.Earlier Angula had a closed door meeting with Karasburg Swapo branch executives and candidates for the up coming Local Authority elections. He said 2004 would be a year of transition for Namibia as the Regional, Local Authority and presidential elections would be held in the year.”Swapo wishes to continue building on the nation unity foundation that President Sam Nujoma laid,” he said.Addressing a Swapo rally at Westerkim, at Karasburg, at the weekend, Angula said:”I urge those making allegations that some of the presidency elected candidature are involved in mudslinging and character defamation to come clean and tell the nation what they know and what we don’t know about ourselves.”We at Swapo want an open, clear and transparent system of managing the transition because this is the only way to give confidence to the nation,” he said.Angula said as far as he was concerned the playing field for the presidential campaign was level.”If I’m elected President I will bring the value of transparency, the value of fairness, the value of unity and the value of progress to that office,” he said.Earlier Angula had a closed door meeting with Karasburg Swapo branch executives and candidates for the up coming Local Authority elections. He said 2004 would be a year of transition for Namibia as the Regional, Local Authority and presidential elections would be held in the year.”Swapo wishes to continue building on the nation unity foundation that President Sam Nujoma laid,” he said.
