Angula calls for local feed production

THE Director General of the National Planning Commission, Helmut Angula, has called on the private sector to initiate projects for the manufacture of animal feed using local raw materials.

These initiatives could be channelled through the Green Scheme project under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry. “There is still great demand for fish and fish products in Europe and by exporting to this lucrative market, Namibia can generate the much-needed foreign exchange,” he said.Angula was speaking at the official opening of the NCCI national council meeting at Swakopmund over the weekend. The gathering was aimed at reviewing the NCCI’s strengths and weaknesses with a view to identifying how best the chamber can play a co-ordinating role in shaping the contributions of the private sector towards Vision 2030 and other national goals. He said Namibia is considered a net importer of food products.”We import even feed for our livestock,” he said, adding that the positive results that are being received from fish farming, aquaculture and poultry projects will not be sustained if they continue to rely on imports for fish and poultry feed. The list of areas in which the private sector, together with Government can play a significant part is endless, given the level of economic development. But, he said, one area that is often neglected is the Information Technology (IT) sector.Government’s responsibility is to create an enabling environment for the private sector to set up IT centres.”We need IT centres in Namibia that will stimulate business development in the country,” he said.Angula would like to see IT centres being set up in Namibia to develop software for big multinational companies.-Nampa”There is still great demand for fish and fish products in Europe and by exporting to this lucrative market, Namibia can generate the much-needed foreign exchange,” he said.Angula was speaking at the official opening of the NCCI national council meeting at Swakopmund over the weekend. But, he said, one area that is often neglected is the Information Technology (IT) sector.Government’s responsibility is to create an enabling environment for the private sector to set up IT centres.”We need IT centres in Namibia that will stimulate business development in the country,” he said.Angula would like to see IT centres being set up in Namibia to develop software for big multinational companies.-Nampa
