Angola defeated Seychelles 3-0 to head the pool on goal-difference, while Botswana edged Comoros as both island sides saw their quarterfinal chances ended.
Angola have now won back-to-back games in the Cosafa Cup for the first time since 2006, the year they reached the FIFA World Cup finals.
They followed up their victory over Comoros on Tuesday with this second win, and now need just a draw against Botswana on Sunday to seal top spot in the group and book a quarterfinal against five-time winners Zambia.
They took the lead against Seychelles through Julinho after 14 minutes before Megue scored his second of the competition via a penalty, though there was some debate whether the offence was inside or outside the box.
The cherry on top came via a fine strike by Vanilson a minute from the end as Angola put in another powerful performance.
Botswana defeated Comoros in the other match of the day as Baokeditswe Talane scored the only goal of the game five minutes before halftime.
He led a swift breakaway after winning possession in midfield and beat two defenders before finishing himself with a low shot into the near post.
The Zebras have also had a long wait for back-to-back wins in the competition, this is their first time since 2009. They have never won three games in succession in the Cosafa Cup, but must do that to advance.
Malawi will hope to bounce back from their surprise 2-1 loss to Lesotho in their opener when they face last year”;s bronze medallists Eswatini at the same venue at 14h00 CAT on Friday.
There was a bumper crowd to cheer the Malawians on Wednesday and they will hope for the same again as they look to stay in the hunt for a quarterfinal place. They will likely have to win to do that, but come up against an Eswatini side who were slick and organised in their 3-0 victory over Mauritius in their first match.
The second game of the day at 17h00 CAT pits Lesotho against Mauritius with the islanders also in desperate need of a win.
Lesotho have been hugely impressive since coach Veselin Jelusic took charge and are looking to show that continued improvement in Durban.
Fans wishing to attend games at the COSAFA Cup must collect their FREE match tickets from the venue the day before the match is played. You can view the full fixture list here.
