Andeline snatches lead in ‘Woestynpsalm’

FRESH-FACED beauty Andeline Wieland won viewers’ hearts during her stint on ‘The Bachelor SA’, and she’s set to dig deeper into her career on screen after landing the lead in the upcoming ‘Woestynpsalm’.

Currently shooting the Afrikaans drama written and directed by Ben van der Walt at various locations across the country, the Miss Namibia 2021 hopeful is excited to dust off her drama degree to portray an anomalous woman reverend tending to a dwindling congregation in the 1980s.

Though Wieland has been an extra in a handful of South African films, this is the multitalented redhead’s first lead role.

“I am playing the role of Nadia Bosman, the lead character, who is a young woman reverend in a male-dominated space. I identify with her as a young Christian and Afrikaans woman who constantly has to prove her love and passion for her community,” says Wieland, who explains art somewhat echoes her own life.

“Nadia is a reverend in a church that doesn’t always believe women may be in that position. Her community, peers and husband challenge her about her career – not intentionally, of course. I can personally really relate to that with my career as well as I am often challenged about how I can be Christian, but also a feminist and a model, for example.”

Considering why Wieland is a great fit as Nadia, Van der Walt is enthusiastic.

“From the beginning, we were very impressed by Andeline’s acting experience and her energy in front of the camera. She carries herself in a poignant manner. Her presence on screen left us with both a strong impression of her range and her ability to deliver emotion in a beautiful way,” he says.

“Andeline’s encapsulation and vision of Nadia’s character is something that we resonated with as a crew from the outset. We feel as though she has already been able to empathise and take Nadia’s struggles, joys, and sorrows into her own preparation process as an actor,” he says.

“We’re looking forward to seeing her deepest potential unfold. We are also incredibly grateful for all the auditions we have received from all the other candidates, and the time they took to communicate with us.”

After a virtual audition, Wieland, who is shooting between her duties and appearances as a Miss Namibia contestant, emerged victorious and continues to build her professional portfolio through voice work as well as via her charity and jewellery businesses, The Snow White Project and Untold Jewellery.

“I’ve also recently started a photography and videography business called Southern X Studios with Kris Barnard,” she says, clearly excited about the future and particularly the film.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges and growth opportunities. To learn as much as possible, and of course the challenge of balancing this with my duties as a Miss Namibia 2021 finalist and top-20 Voice of Namibia contestant,” she says.

“I am also excited to finally put my degree and passion to the test, and to remind everyone there’s more to me than just a pretty face and some luck. Hopefully this will open up more doors in the acting and presenting world.”
