Amutenya commends Govt for recruitment of teachers, health workers

Swapo Party lawmaker Willem Amutenya has commended the government for its decision to reallocate funds towards the recruitment of additional teachers and health professionals.

“I wish to commend the government for its decisive adjustment of funds towards the recruitment of more teachers and health professionals,” Amutenya said during the second session of the eighth parliament assembly on Wednesday.

He described the move as a crucial step in addressing the challenges of overcrowded classrooms and understaffed hospitals, while also creating much-needed employment opportunities for young graduates across the country.

Amutenya urged executive directors in the health and education ministries to ensure that the more than 2 000 budgeted positions are filled without unnecessary delays.

“While we celebrate this progressive step, it is imperative that we call upon the accounting authorities, that is the executive directors in the ministries of education and health, to ensure that these over 2 000 budgeted positions are filled without delay,” he said.

The lawmaker also praised the agriculture ministry for the progress made under the national green schemes.

“I want to commend the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform for the positive progress in our national green schemes,” he stated, noting that recent harvests are encouraging signs of progress toward food security and self-sufficiency.

“However, while we celebrate these achievements, it is equally important to ensure that the benefits of such productivity reach the tables of ordinary Namibians. Good production must translate into impact,” Amutenya added.
