Affirmative Repositioning leader Job Amupanda blames the distribution of personal information of individuals, including president Nangolo Mbumba’s information, on social media on the Namibia Central Intelligence Service (NCIS).
Amupanda told The Namibian on Monday that “it’s a big intelligence failure” that personal data, including that of the president, was leaked on social media.
Local media on Sunday morning reported that there was a significant cyberattack on Telecom Namibia. It was further reported that about 300 000 files of personal information, including identification numbers belonging to Mbumba, ministers, opposition leaders and ordinary citizens, were leaked on social media.
Amupanda on Saturday posted on his social media that the hacking was not just limited to Telecom Namibia but to other institutions as well, including commercial banks. He said the country’s security institutions only focus on spying and intelligence for Swapo, but not national security.
“We are not safe with people who put Swapo and their stomachs first, before national security,” he posted. NCIS director general Benedict Likando did not answer numerous calls to his mobile on Monday.
