Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda is confident that he will emerge victorious when he fights Cristian Palma from Chile on 17 May for the WBA and IBF super bantamweight international titles at Omuthiya Park.
This will be Ambunda’s first fight since he lost the WBO bantamweight world title to Tomoki Kameda in Cebu, Philippines, where he put up a fine display and earned the respect of boxing fans around the world.
Ambunda is hungry to reclaim his past glory and to become the world champion again, but he will have to get past a tough opponent in the name of Cristian Palma who comes in with an impressive record of 27 fights, 19 wins, 7 losses and one draw.
“I know I am fighting a tough opponent, who is well rated in the world but my camp has done everything to prepare me for this occasion. The WBA and IBF international titles are prestigious titles and I will do everything in my power to make sure I keep these titles in Namibia,” said Ambunda.
On the same card, Betuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona will be in action against the highly rated boxer, Ebenezer Lamptey from Ghana.
“This will undoubtedly be one of the biggest fights in Tyson’s career, he is well prepared and looking forward to making Namibia proud. He has done very well for himself and is currently rated number one in the world by the WBO,” said Namibian promoter Nestor Tobias.
“I know that I’m rated number one in the world but l’m focused and I will knock him out in round six,” said a confident Ushona.
While the Namibian boxers were confident of doing well, their foreign opponents were also in confident mood.
“I will be there to spoil the party as I know I will win but I don’t know if I will win on points or knock him out,” Palma said.
“This is a good opportunity to get to the top as I know Tyson is rated number one in the world and if I win I will take over the mandatory challenger’s position, so there is no way I can let him survive this battle,” Lamptey said.
