Amadhila arrested

A WELL-KNOWN businessman in northern Namibia, Onesmus Tobias Amadhila, was released on bail of N$7 000 after being arrested on a charge of rape yesterday.

Amadhila’s arrest and release on bail were reported from Outapi late yesterday. Amadhila had a press statement issued by his lawyer in July last year to deny claim, reported in a free fortnightly newspaper at that time, that he had allegedly committed rape and incest. He also denied that he had offered the complainant in the case N$50 000, and had offered her mother N$20 000, in an effort to persuade them to withdraw charge that had been laid against him with the Police.Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa told The Namibian in early November that she was still studying the Police’s docket on the investigation of the complaint before she would take a decision whether to press charges against Amadhila or not.”If there is evidence I can prosecute. If there is no evidence, I cannot prosecute,” she said at the time.It appears that it has now been decided that Amadhila should be prosecuted.Amadhila had a press statement issued by his lawyer in July last year to deny claim, reported in a free fortnightly newspaper at that time, that he had allegedly committed rape and incest. If there is no evidence, I cannot prosecute,” she said at the time.It appears that it has now been decided that Amadhila should be prosecuted.
