‘Ali’ wins again

NAMIBIAN welterweight pugilist Paulus ‘Ali’ Nuumbembe stopped opponent Dmitry Yanushevich in the second round of their six-round bout on Friday night in the United Kingdom.

Nuumbembe did not fight Ukrainian Vladimir Borovski, as was reported on his website on Thursday, but instead beat Belarusian Yanushevich within two minutes and 41 seconds into the second round when the referee stopped the contest. ‘The Silent Assassin’, as Nuumbembe is also known, now boasts 12 victories, one loss and one draw since turning professional in 2004.The Belarusian now has six victories with two knockouts, seven losses and one draw.Nuumbembe started the fight too quickly, which resulted in the first round being a bit scrappy, but after a few harsh words from his trainer Bob Shannon, he soon settled down in the second round, picking his shots better and using more of his boxing skills.Yanushevich was much bigger than Nuumbembe, having weighed in over 6 kg heavier, and he tried to use his size to push the Namibian onto the ropes to launch attacks of his own. This was the case until near the end of the second round when Nuumbembe, with his back on the ropes, threw a left hook forcing his opponent to back off.He immediately followed up with a huge right cross which landed flush onto the jaw of Yanushevich, causing him to spin around and his legs turn to jelly.Referee Howard Foster stopped the fight.-Nampa.’The Silent Assassin’, as Nuumbembe is also known, now boasts 12 victories, one loss and one draw since turning professional in 2004.The Belarusian now has six victories with two knockouts, seven losses and one draw.Nuumbembe started the fight too quickly, which resulted in the first round being a bit scrappy, but after a few harsh words from his trainer Bob Shannon, he soon settled down in the second round, picking his shots better and using more of his boxing skills.Yanushevich was much bigger than Nuumbembe, having weighed in over 6 kg heavier, and he tried to use his size to push the Namibian onto the ropes to launch attacks of his own. This was the case until near the end of the second round when Nuumbembe, with his back on the ropes, threw a left hook forcing his opponent to back off.He immediately followed up with a huge right cross which landed flush onto the jaw of Yanushevich, causing him to spin around and his legs turn to jelly.Referee Howard Foster stopped the fight.-Nampa.
