The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has urged the public and farmers not to panic over the risk of foot-and-mouth disease spreading into Namibia from neighbouring countries.
In an update on Sunday, ministry spokesperson Simon Nghipandulwa said the government has put measures in place to prevent the possible entry of the disease.
Namibia’s animal health systems remain prepared to respond to any potential risks, the statement reads.
Nghipandulwa said vigilance remains necessary, adding that the country is capable of managing the situation.
The minstry also encourages farmers and the public to take precautionary measures, comply with veterinary guidance and report any suspected cases promptly.
Nghipandulwa stressed the importance of regional cooperation.
He noted that the ministry stands ready to support neighbouring countries through cooperation and assistance to help contain the outbreak.
