Agribank has encouraged members of the public to use the bank’s whistleblower platform to report cases of fraud, bribery, corruption, theft and receipt of facilitation payments.
According to a statement issued by the bank’s spokesperson, Fillemon Nangonya, issues that can also be reported through the platform are the failure to comply with laws such as anti-money laundering requirements, the misuse of company property and damage to company property and other unethical conduct.
“Agribank regards ethical business behaviour to be the responsibility of every person in the bank. Such ethical behaviour is reflected not only in our relationships with each other as employees, but also with our customers, suppliers, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
“Agribank’s code of ethics and related corporate policies are the guiding principles for dealing ethically at all levels of business,” said Nangonya.
He said Agribank introduced an anonymous whistleblower platform in 2021 to serve as a tool where unethical, corrupt or fraudulent activities can be reported by staff, members of the public, as well as other stakeholders.
The public is therefore reminded of the existence of the platform, which is now available on the bank’s website, Nangonya said.
He said the whistleblower platform is intended to provide ease in reporting concerns and/or wrongdoing and further encourages all stakeholders to raise concerns with Agribank rather than reporting such concerns through other channels.
The incidents can be reported using the bank’s website at www.agribank.com.na, the statement said.
Users of the whistleblowing reporting platform must act in good faith and are encouraged not to make false accusations when reporting any concerns.
“Whistleblowers may choose to remain anonymous or provide their identity, but a person’s identity will always be protected. All reports of unfounded accusations, especially those aimed at tarnishing the image or brand of the bank, will be reported to the relevant authorities,” said Nangonya. – email: matthew@nambian.com.na
