Attorney general (AG) Festus Mbandeka says president Nangolo Mbumba was lawfully sworn in as the substantive president of Namibia.
He says the presidential succession process was conducted in accordance with the Namibian Constitution.
Mbandeka was addressing public concerns and clarifying constitutional procedure in a statement issued on Thursday.
“The filling of the vacancy in the Office of President following the passing of the late president Hage Geingob and the appointment of the vice president (Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah) by president Nangolo Mbumba, were carried out strictly within the confines of and in conformity with the Namibian Constitution,” he said.
He also refuted claims that there is a high-level investigation being conducted into the succession process.
Mbandeka urged the public to remain calm and united in mourning Geingob while maintaining respect and dignity.
