More Western shows are beautifully incorporating African stories into their plots and that’s good news for us.
One such example is a stunning five-minute clip released by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation earlier this year based on two lovers, namely Mary and Lionel, who are forced to wish each other well at an airport.
The gist is that she’s from Ivory Coast and he’s from the opposite side of the continent – Kenya. An airport attendant asks them questions about their lives – and it’s best that you hold on to your tissues before you watch.
With over five million views, ‘PS I Love You: Lionel and Mary’ still has viewers vying for more and it’s definitely a recommended love story to check out if you’re ever feeling down.
Oh, and here’s the sad part: it’s all true.
Not to forget, ‘Love By Chance’. A new movie that should be in South African cinemas (but Namibians might get a chance to score the DVD if it comes out). The story details the lives of two South African actors in America who meet by chance, but deal with their own battles trying to make it in the Hollywood industry. Described as a ‘cluttered mess’ already, judging by the trailer, it’s one of those B-rated movies that you should watch out of curiosity.
And then there’s ‘Katutura’, the locally produced gem where love blooms in the townships. And according to the production team, ‘Katutura’ will go on sale in Namibia from 31 May. By the way, did we mention that it’s already rated 8.2 out of 10 on IMDb?
