Africa SMME Awards invite entries

SOME of Africa’s most successful and innovative SMMEs will be recognised for their excellence in October this year.

CAPE Town will be the backdrop of this year’s Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMME) Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Africagrowth Institute, an independent company focusing on growth in Africa. The main goal of the awards program is to encourage SMME development on a continental scale and market Africa as an attractive investment destination to the rest of the world, says Africagrowth Institute Director, Professor Nicholas Biekpe.’Our motive is very clear – to showcase the impact and role of SMMEs in the development of Africa,’ he said, adding that since SMMEs make up the a large portion of Africa’s workforce, they deserve recognition and exposure.Entry into the competition is free, but SMMEs may only compete for one of six awards: one award in each of the Trade, Services and Industrial sectors, the Best New Business Award, the Most Innovative Enterprise Award and the Young Enterprise Award. The overall SMME of the Year Award recipient will be selected from the winners of those categories. The closing date for entries is 31 July 2009.ndapwa@namibian.com.na
