Adora takes on Mauritius

SONGSTRESS and one of Namibia’s top vocalists Adora spent the past two weeks in Mauritius performing at the official gala dinner and various games of the 2016 Cosafa u17 soccer competition.

After performing at one of the games played by the Mauritian team, Adora was approached by the Mauritian Confederation of African Football to be part of the Cosafa u17 youth championships as an entertainer.

She composed the Cosafa Castle Cup 2016 theme song and although she was only supposed to perform at the official opening, she made the most of the opportunity and performed at a number of other games throughout the competition.

“I realised the value of this platform and I ended up performing at a number of games,” Adora said.

This being her first time visiting the island, Adora made the most of her off time to network and shoot two music videos.

“I travelled with my two dancers Alex Gawanab and Tricha who worked equally as hard to contribute to this journey.

At a later stage, we were joined by Abraham Amushila and Julian Mugabe from Draycott Multimedia, who are handling the marketing aspect of my brand.”

The opportunity to perform at an event of this magnitude has not only added to her musical CV but has also motivated the singer to work even harder.

She added that being discovered in Namibia by the Mauritian football officials is a humbling experience and a reminder of the saying ‘you never know who is watching’.

She said that the experience has shown her that there are still a few big lessons the Namibian entertainment industry can and should learn from other entertainment industries.

“I’m also in awe of the star treatment we received here. The local show promoters in Namibia rarely give us that star treatment. Everywhere we visited, as soon as they were told I’m an artist from Namibia, we were immediately appreciated.”

The experience has also broadened her scope in terms of the type of music she will venture into as well as production elements she can add to the projects she is already working on.

Being scouted while performing her own work has also boosted her confidence in her own music and is motivation to continue with her own sound.

Adora is no stranger to the international market and it is no surprise that she has her sights set on taking her sound international, having made use of the platform to network and build international connections for her musical brand.

“On one of the music video sets, we were joined by the Verlaat Brothers from Netherlands who added amazing drone shots of the beautiful island.”

With 80% of her debut album done, Adora performed her own music at every performance.

“The fans love the fancy elements in the music,” she said.

Although she cannot name exactly what she will take from this opportunity, it will reflect in her music and brand.

“God’s plan for us is bigger. I didn’t know my sacrifices and hard work would expose me to platforms and help me meet amazing people from all over the world.”
