Add some Namibian flavour to your condiments

SWAKOPMUND-born Windhoek resident Eunice Mbamba has added her collection of homemade sauces to the Namibian food market.Although she has been making the sauces for the past 10 years, Mbamba started selling them commercially this year.

An avid lover of all things hot and spicy when it comes to food, Mbamba says she fostered a fascination for food at a very young age and started making sauces for her family and close friends.

“My first patrons encouraged me to put myself out there and sell, but a lack of courage held me back. Finally, this year, a family member gave me the push I needed to start selling delectable sauces,” Mbamba says.

Selling the sauces for the first time at the Windhoek City Market in May gave the foodie the courage to brand her sauces. The name of the sauce, Soresos, translates to ‘little sun’ in Khoekhoegowab, her home language.

The name was born from a creative brainstorming session with her brother; they settled on Soresos as the range consisted of hot sauces right from the beginning.

Employed full time, Mbamba spends her evenings and weekends making the sauces which consist of various chilli sauces, tomato and chilli jams, whole grain mustard, roasted bell peppers and herb oils. She recently added marmalades and chutneys which she hopes to debut at the Windhoek City market on Saturday.

Admitting that working full-time and building her brand can be demanding, Mbamba says her determination to succeed overrides her need for sleep. Apart from working hard to make her mark in the food industry, she wants to contribute to the economy of the country and to decreasing the unemployment rate in Namibia.
