Action Speaks Louder

Action Speaks Louder

ALLOW me a little space in your respected newspaper to vent my frustration about the empty speeches that are being made by our politicians, including the President.

It appears to me that our leaders do not know what is expected from them. Instead of acting, they are merely giving long, boring speeches and making empty promises.Actions speak louder than words. This is what a nation wants to see in practice.I was surprised to hear our President still preaching about his favourite words – ‘zero tolerance on corruption’ – at Opuwo. What surprised me most was his reference to the Avid scandal. This stimulated a mixture of hope and despair in me.Hope in the sense that at least he can still repeat his words and despair after mentioning the Avid case in which he is failing to act decisively.Attitudes of this nature are detrimental to our trust in our leaders. If they want to maintain trust with us, they must earn it.The only way to gain it from us is by proving their commitment to our needs through actions, not words.I cannot rest in the presence of corruption in its current state. We were just trying to recover from the N$30 million loss at SSC; now it’s N$650 mil at GIPF and N$100 mils at ODC.Time for action is now, no more words. This is the only way to keep our dreams of vision 2030 alive.John Hatutale Via e-mailInstead of acting, they are merely giving long, boring speeches and making empty promises.Actions speak louder than words. This is the only way to keep our dreams of vision 2030 alive.
