ACC arrests former Rehoboth council officers

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday arrested four men on charges of corruption. Amongst them are former Rehoboth Mayor, George Dax and the Rehoboth Town Council’s current Public Relations Officer, Jeffrey Kasupi.

The other two accused are former Building Inspector and acting Technical Head, Sands Witbeen and Marco Rittmann, a contractor who was responsible for the rehabilitation of the Block E sewerage system.

The charges against them relate to alleged irregularities in the allocation of tenders.

They made their first appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Friday in front of Magistrate Andre Matulich.

The four face charges of corruptly using their office or position for self-gratification. Kasupi, Witbeen and Rittman face an additional charge for using a fake company to apply for a tender.

The alleged corruption was committed between December 2005 and December 2010.

The four were not asked to plead and the matter was remanded to 12 to 14 June this year for plea purposes.

All four accused were represented by Ajah Nepembe from Isaacks and Partners on instruction by Stanley Law Chambers.

A possibility of a fifth suspect being arrested was not ruled out by State Prosecutor Leonard Matheus.
