THE Hitambo Virtual Academy, a Windhoek-based non-profit organisation, continues to bridge the information gap by offering training in financial literacy to budding entrepreneurs, mainly young people.
According to the head of the academy, Mbunga Mbeuza, the institution targets farmers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), pupils and microbusiness.
Recently, the organisation conducted a financial simulation course at the Katutura Multipurpose Centre in Windhoek, which was attended by young people from different backgrounds, including microbusiness owners, local savings group members, emerging farmers and sportspeople.
Mbeuza, a certified trainer of SMEs and microbusiness owners, says throughout the simulation exercise, the participants were taught four main aspects of living a quality life and saving: budgeting, decision-making, teamwork and accountability.
He says the target of the two-day savings simulation course is to employ a simple model for household members, business owners, farmers, youth in sport and different community organisations to acquire basic knowledge on saving money.
Mbeuza says more savings simulation training courses are lined up in different regions of Namibia from 2 to 13 October.
“Each class will have between 25 and 30 trainees who will be registered on a first come, first served basis.
On 2 and 3 October, we will have sessions in Windhoek from 16h00 to 20h00, while on 7 and 8 October, we will be at Otjiwarongo, and on 14 and 15 October at Gobabis,” he says.
“We use microbusiness simulations for training on how to make business decisions, and on financial literacy, including basic accounting and keeping financial records – especially cash-flow statements and savings,” Mbeuza says.
He says the institution works in partnership with the German organisation Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung für Internationale Kooperation, which finances part of the training programmes and materials.
“They also designed the business simulation training programme we use,” Mbeuza says.
