A toddler (2) was allegedly abandoned in front of a shopping complex at Khorixas on Thursday evening.
Police head of community affairs in the Kunene region chief inspector Vehangaiza Hindjou has confirmed the incident, saying a man believed to be Damara-speaking gave the toddler to a teenager who was sitting in front of a supermarket at the complex.
Speaking Otjiherero, the man allegedly said he would just go get the child’s belongings from his vehicle, but did not return.
The teenager told her father, who took the toddler to the local police station.
Hindjou says the child was then taken to the local hospital for care and observation.
“We will be looking for the baby’s parents,” she says.
The police will also view closed circuit television footage of the complex to identify the suspect.
