Nored concerned about illegal connections in the Zambezi region

Northern Regional Electricity Distributors (NORED) acting chief executive Toivo Shovaleka says a high number of their electricity meters have been tempered with in the Zambezi region.

He made these remarks during the official inauguration of the Kongola-Masambo power line and the electrification of Masambo Primary School on Wednesday.

According to Shovaleka, the Zambezi region makes up 22% of illegal connections in their whole area of operation, which means 77 meters have been bypassed in the region.

“This is theft of electricity, an illegal act that negatively impacts our business operations. Therefore, we would like to appeal to our customers and beneficiaries, locally and across our area of operation, to immediately stop engaging in illegal activities and unsafe practices such as electricity theft through bypass, tempering, and illegal connections. If this continues, we will not be able to supply you with electricity or maintain the infrastructure,” he said.

He appealed to the residents to immediately report any tampering or illegal connections to the nearest police station or Nored offices.
