Karakul ram sold for N$25 000

A KARAKUL ram fetched a whopping price of N$25 000 at an Elite Ram Auction at Keetmanshoop on Wednesday.

Eighty rams came under the hammer at an average price of N$10 013. Donny Oberholzer, who farms in the Karasburg district, bought the ram that fetched the highest price of N$25 000. The ram was bred by Niel Karstens in the Karasburg district. Agra Representative Wessel Visser said it was surprising to see black karakul rams sold at such high prices despite the decline in prices of black pelts at the recent Copenhagen Fur Action in Denmark. A karakul ewe also fetched a high price of N$2 400 at a separate auction on the same day. At the auction, karakul ewes were sold at an average price of N$1 245.Both Danie Visser and Donny Oberholzer bought karakul ewes for N$2 400. luqman@namibian.com.na
