WALVIS BAY – One of the world’s leaders in container shipping, CMA CGM, recently introduced the WAX express (West Africa Express), which will include the port of Walvis Bay as the first port of call en route to Tema, Lome, Apapa and Abidjan along the West Coast of Africa.
The Corporate Communications Officer of Namport, Jo-Ann Stevens, said in a media statement on Thursday that this scheduled service will result in a CMA CGM vessel calling at the Port of Walvis Bay every seven days, sailing from the Far East.
‘CMA CGM will deploy 10 vessels to the WAX route, resulting in a very reliable service for exporters and importers in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region trading with the Far East,’ said Stevens.
The complete rotation of this weekly service will be: Shanghai, Ningbo, Fuqing, Chiwan, Port Kelang and finally Walvis Bay, before the service connects to West Africa.
