German charity did not give permission for Swapo rally

THE Namibian co-ordinator of the German charity organisation Hand in Hand for Children says she did not give permission to the ruling Swapo Party to hold a political rally on its premises on Sunday afternoon.

Jutta Rohwer, who is well known in social welfare circles and who is also a member of the FNB board of directors, contacted The Namibian after a news story was published in Monday’s edition, reporting that the rally took place at the Okahandja Park soup kitchen. “Hand in Hand is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit organisation, which is funding the Okahandja Park soup kitchen feeding programme,” Rohwer told The Namibian. The soup kitchen caters for about 350 orphans and vulnerable children in the Okahandja Park informal settlement.”We feed the children there and no political party for that matter should hold meetings on the premises,” Rohwer said.”We are now afraid that the donors (Hand in Hand) might withdraw their monthly support for the soup kitchen feeding programme,” Rohwer added.”Hand in Hand is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit organisation, which is funding the Okahandja Park soup kitchen feeding programme,” Rohwer told The Namibian. The soup kitchen caters for about 350 orphans and vulnerable children in the Okahandja Park informal settlement.”We feed the children there and no political party for that matter should hold meetings on the premises,” Rohwer said.”We are now afraid that the donors (Hand in Hand) might withdraw their monthly support for the soup kitchen feeding programme,” Rohwer added.
