Head-on crash claims two on Swakop-Arandis road

Two drivers died in a head-on collision between a truck and a bakkie on the Swakopmund-Arandis road.

The crash took place on Saturday, national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says.

The truck, reportedly carrying empty beer bottles and crates, was travelling from Swakopmund to Arandis when it collided with a bakkie travelling in the opposite direction.

Shikwambi says both vehicles caught fire on impact, and the drivers burned beyond recognition.

“The bakkie driver has been identified as a 38-year-old Chinese male employed as a site manager at Beifang Mining Company at Rössing Uranium Mine. The identity of the truck driver remains unknown,” she says.
