A woman (32) from Rundu has been arrested for allegedly scamming a shopper out of N$3 500 in cash, a cellphone, personal documents and a handbag, Kavango East acting regional commander commissioner Eino Nambahu says.
Her accomplices are still at large, says Nambahu.According to Nambahu, the incident occurred on Monday when the victim was approached by the suspect inside a shop, who promised a discount on her purchases.
The scam involved luring the victim outside the shop and switching purses, which allowed the suspect to steal the victim’s belongings, Nambahu says.
“The victim initially hesitated to report the crime due to the illegal nature of the backdoor deal. However, upon encountering the suspect again on 23 May, she reported the incident to the police,” Nambahu says.
The police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen items from a residence in Hilka Park, Nambahu adds. Nambahu urged the community to avoid backdoor deals and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
