Standing Up For The Anthem

Standing Up For The Anthem

I CANNOT understand that, after 15 years of Independence there are still people who do not know that they should stand to attention when a National Anthem is being played.

Yesterday with the opening of Parliament, I saw it again and you see it all the time! And I’m not talking about just you and me and the next person, I am talking about the important people – those who should set an example. Maybe you could publish a picture of someone standing to attention so people can see exactly what is expected of them.”When the National Anthem is played or sung, all present should stand to attention, with hands against the sides and feet together.Persons in full uniform should salute.”(‘Namibian Guide to Modern Living’).Do not talk to the person next to you.It is our duty to all know the words of the National Anthem of Namibia. Also for the OAU song we must stand to attention or if any other country’s National Anthem is being played. For those who do not know, at a public function the National Anthem of a guest country is played first and then the National Anthem of the host.Marietjie Pottas WindhoekMaybe you could publish a picture of someone standing to attention so people can see exactly what is expected of them.”When the National Anthem is played or sung, all present should stand to attention, with hands against the sides and feet together.Persons in full uniform should salute.”(‘Namibian Guide to Modern Living’).Do not talk to the person next to you.It is our duty to all know the words of the National Anthem of Namibia. Also for the OAU song we must stand to attention or if any other country’s National Anthem is being played. For those who do not know, at a public function the National Anthem of a guest country is played first and then the National Anthem of the host.Marietjie Pottas Windhoek
