Mother allegedly kills baby, hides body in deep freezer

A woman (34) is under police guard at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital after she allegedly murdered her newborn son and hid his six-day-old body in a deep freezer.

This was discovered at Onawa at Oshakati on Tuesday.

Oshana regional police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo says the woman gave birth at home, killed the baby and concealed his body.

He says the woman gave birth on 13 September at about 20h00.

After allegedly killing the baby, the woman washed him before putting him inside the deep freezer.

A full-term baby was found wrapped in plastic bags after the woman’s neighbours alerted the police to a crying baby, which fell silent after a number of days.

Aiyambo says it is suspected that the woman killed the baby a few days after his birth.

She was allegedly seen carrying plastic bags, which further sparked the neighbours’ suspicion.

The woman, who stays alone in her shack, allegedly told the police she killed the baby before hiding his body in the deep freezer, Aiyambo says.

She will be facing charges of concealment of birth and murder, pending DNA test results.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
