A 21-year-old mother, identified as Hileni Virere, allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter before taking her own life at a house at Old Ombili, Otjiwarongo, on Saturday.
This was announced in the weekend crime report by the Namibian police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi.
It is suspected the incident happened between 16h50 and 17h00.
“Prior to the incident, the deceased’s friend made several calls and got suspicious after Virere did not pick up or return her calls.
“She became worried and decided to walk to her house. On approaching the deceased’s house, she caught a terrible smell coming from the house and alerted the police regarding the smell,” Shikwambi added.
