President Hage Geingob on Wednesday travelled to Luanda, Angola, to participate in the two-day 43rd Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which brings together heads of state and government.

In his capacity as the chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, Geingob will preside over the organ’s summit.

During the summit, he will present the organ’s report.

Furthermore, Geingob will pass on the leadership of the organ troika to his successor, president Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia.

The theme of the summit is ‘Human and Financial Capital: The Catalysts for Sustainable Industrialisation in the SADC Region’.

This summit will evaluate the progress made in implementing the priorities outlined in the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030.

Additionally, it will review advancements in the execution of the SADC Industrialisation Strategy and Road Map 2015-2063, as well as the achievements related to promoting industrialisation through agro-processing, mineral beneficiation, and regional value chains, which were set forth in the objectives of the 42nd SADC Summit.

The Ordinary SADC Summit holds the crucial role of defining the overall policy direction and overseeing the functions of the SADC.
